Hey Chris. Sorry if this reply doesn't get threaded properly with your
initial topic. I just signed up to the discussion list and unfortunately
previous discussions are lost to recent signees. Shouldn't be too much
of a problem though, with quoting and all that.
Great class! by the way, with lots of great food!( also for thought :) )
Big thanks to you and Maggie for putting so much work into it.
So...Here are my attempts to inject my answers to your preliminary
questions...just to sort of get the ball rolling and see if this
dicussion list has wheels....sorry if it's a bit university student
toned...Hasn't been that long since I left traditional schooling:
Why should this 'forgetfulness' necessarily 'divide society into
two parts'?
How can one be 'superior to society'?
What, then, is 'revolutionary practice' in this context?
How does this relate to education?
What sort of activities are there where self-change and change
of circumstances coincide?
Hmmm....actually come to think of it I think I'm gonna think about this
a bit more....Something along the lines of having to do with the
dialectical relationship between objectivist and subjectivist views of
reality.
On another note....I sort of came to the realisation shortly after the
first class that
"hey, wait a minute. Humanity has actually made it. We've actually
arrived. We've finally reached the technological level where most of
these archaic (but not archaic enough) structures can really finally be
smashed and in fact it seems an inevitability. The only question is how
long will it be willingly postponed?
I mean why should our poor kids have to be dragged out of bed every day
to be wrenched from their parents and troddled off (sorry, that's not
actually a word but it sounds nice) for their daily dose of brow beating
and conformity training, when they could happily get out of bed, eat a
nice relaxed breakfast with momma and/or poppa and sit at home in front
of the internet video terminal for their daily lessons, all without even
having to get out of their pj's? I think of course the physical
interaction with other students and teacher part is very important but
not necessarily needed every day. Maybe one or two days a week a
student/teacher get together day or something like that. The rest of
the days they can interact with the kids in their neighborhoods."
Thoughts?
